International studio

1897 · New York · 459 pictures

The International Studio was the New York edition of the London art magazine The Studio, begun in 1897 for artists, collectors and decorators, and reproduced current painting, printmaking, architecture and applied design. The plates are halftone reproductions with soft gray tonal ranges: Barbizon-type landscapes with massed trees, cattle and figures on open ground, hazy coastal and hill towns, plus ornament and craft studies useful as atmospheric textures, silhouetted tree masses and muted background washes.
