An illustrated survey of medieval and Renaissance decorative arts by Paul Lacroix, writing as the bibliophile P. L. Jacob, published in Paris by Firmin Didot in 1869 for French collectors and general readers. The wood engravings copy tomb effigies, engraved brasses, stained glass, ivories, enamels and goldsmiths' work, giving designers clean outline figure panels, historiated initials with foliate borders and shields, and hatched renderings of carved stone drapery.
