The Locomotive
A trade periodical on steam boilers issued from 1867 by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, for engineers, inspectors and plant owners concerned with boiler explosions. The figures are numbered line-cuts of broken iron and steel — torn plate, fractured stay bolts, split tubes and forgings — printed in dense black with white hatching that records fibrous grain and layered rupture, useful as abstract texture, fracture diagrams or heavy silhouette shapes.
