The Locomotive
A technical periodical issued from 1867 by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, for engineers, boiler owners, and insurance inspectors concerned with steam plant safety and explosions. The plates are plain line engravings: sectional views of boiler settings and brickwork, piping runs with labelled valves and fittings, and reversed white-on-black geometric diagrams of plate seams, giving designers keyed mechanical schematics and high-contrast negative line work.
