Mechanical exercises, or, The elements and practice of carpentry, joinery, bricklaying, masonry, slating, plastering, painting, smithing, and turning
A trade manual of 1812 by the architect and mathematician Peter Nicholson, issued in London by J. Taylor to teach carpenters, joiners, bricklayers, masons, smiths and turners the geometry behind their work. Copperplate diagrams dominate: line constructions for arches, roof trusses and stairs, joint details, and tool profiles, all usable as sources of precise linework, lettered keys and construction geometry.
