Medieval architecture, its origins and development, with lists of monuments and bibliographies
A two-volume scholarly survey of Romanesque and Gothic building by the American art historian Arthur Kingsley Porter, published by Yale University Press in 1912 for architects, students, and medievalists. The plates are halftone photographs of French and Italian church exteriors and interiors, showing apse buttressing, nave arcades with clerestory windows, tracery panels and carved capitals in raking light, useful as sources of Gothic ornament, stone texture, and vaulted perspective.
