The microscope in the brewery and malt-house
A technical manual on microscopy for brewers and maltsters, written by Charles George Matthews and Francis Edward Lott and published by Bemrose & Sons in London in 1889. The lithographed plates show numbered circular microscope fields filled with yeast cells, bacilli, starch grains and mould heads, offering designers stipple-and-outline cell forms and clean ruled roundels with italic figure labels.
