Museum ideals of purpose and method
A 1918 treatise on museum purpose and practice by Benjamin Ives Gilman, secretary of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, printed at the Riverside Press by order of the trustees for museum staff and trustees. The plates are coarse-screen halftone photographs of gallery interiors with men demonstrating viewing positions, framed pictures on easels and chairs in use, alongside hatched floor plans and light diagrams useful as period gallery furniture, exhibition-display references and architectural diagram textures.
