Narrative and critical history of America
A multi-volume scholarly history of America edited by Justin Winsor and published by Houghton Mifflin in Boston and New York in 1884, written for historians and students of early exploration and cartography. The plates are redrawn line facsimiles of early maps: bare coastlines, river networks and lake outlines with numbered keys and italic place names, useful as sparse cartographic linework and hand-lettered geographic labels.
