A household advice and design manual by Almon C. Varney, published in Detroit in 1883 for middle-class American homeowners furnishing and building houses. Wood engravings show Gothic and bracketed cottages in landscaped settings, bay windows and balconies, and isolated ornament such as scrolled iron finials, giving designers architectural elevations, vignette scenes, and detachable decorative motifs.
