The Photographic art-journal
The Photographic Art-Journal was a monthly trade periodical edited by Henry Hunt Snelling and published in New York from 1851 for daguerreotypists, portrait operators, and readers following the new medium's chemistry and business. The images here are wood-engraved decorated initials set into the text columns, each capital hatched or shaded and trailing vines, blossoms, acanthus scrolls and curling tendrils down the margin, usable as drop caps, corner ornaments, or cut-apart floral filigree.
