The practical exemplar of architecture
A portfolio of measured architectural drawings edited by Mervyn Macartney and issued in London by Technical Journals in 1907, made for architects, draughtsmen and builders studying English classical and Georgian building. The plates are hard-line pen drawings with scale bars and annotations: cornice and moulding profiles in solid black section, acanthus consoles, coffered and rosette soffits, rusticated arches and panelled doorcases, useful for precise ornament outlines, profile silhouettes and drafting-style line work.
