The Scottish school of painting
A survey history of Scottish painters from the eighteenth century onward, written by the Edinburgh artist William Darling McKay and published in London and New York in 1906 for gallery-goers and students of art history. The plates are halftone reproductions of oil paintings: crowded village interiors, market and fairground gatherings, cottage firelight scenes and portraits, useful as sources of period costume, grouped figure arrangements and soft tonal grounds.
