Kenyon Cox, an American painter and critic, collected his essays on European and American artists in this 1907 New York volume from Duffield and Co., written for general readers of art criticism. The 75 plates are halftone reproductions of paintings and sculpture — fête-galante garden groups, reclining nudes, a candlelit church interior, a draped seated figure in a niche — with heavy shadow, soft edges, and coarse screen texture useful as tonal grounds and figure silhouettes.
