Stained glass; a handbook on the art of stained and painted glass, its origin and development from the time of Charlemagne to its decadence (850-1650 A. D.)
A technical and historical handbook on stained and painted glass from Charlemagne to 1650, written by Alfred Werck and published in New York by N. L. Brown in 1922 for craftsmen, students and collectors. The plates are halftone photographs of medieval window panels: haloed figures under cusped Gothic arches, leaded borders, castle and tomb motifs, with heavy black lead lines and flat tonal masses that convert readily to high-contrast stencils, panel frames and figure silhouettes.
