The æsthetic attitude
A 1920 treatise on the psychology of aesthetics by Harvard psychologist Herbert Sidney Langfeld, published in New York by Harcourt, Brace and Howe for students and general readers of art theory. The plates are coarse-screen halftones of Italian Renaissance painting and ceiling frescoes, often two to a page, chosen to demonstrate symmetry, balance and pyramidal grouping, and they yield flat gray altarpiece compositions and seated figures useful as texture or as diagrammable arrangements.
