A text-book of design
A 1912 classroom manual of ornament and design by Charles Fabens Kelley and William Luther Mowll, printed by the Riverside Press for Houghton Mifflin in Boston and aimed at art and craft students. Plates reproduce textile, embroidery and carved patterns as flat black-and-white line blocks — lattices, scrolls, rosettes and stepped motifs — usable as repeat tiles, borders and stencil-weight shapes.
