Wonders of sculpture
Louis Viardot's survey of sculpture from antiquity onward, translated for American general readers and issued by Scribner, Armstrong in New York in 1873. Wood engravings render single statues on plinths against blank or hatched grounds, nude male figures leaning on tree stumps and draped supports, usable as cut-out silhouettes, tonal figure studies, or classical ornament.
