The airplane engine

Marks, Lionel S. (Lionel Simeon), 1871- · 1922 · New York [etc.] McGraw-Hill book company, inc. · 6 pictures

A 1922 McGraw-Hill technical manual on aircraft engines by Harvard mechanical engineering professor Lionel S. Marks, written for engineers, mechanics and engineering students in the years just after the First World War. The plates are line-engraved sectional drawings of cylinders, valves, connecting rods, ball bearings, fuel and carburetor circuits and planetary reduction gears, with heavy hatching, numbered figure captions and letter keys that supply ready-made machine-part silhouettes and cutaway textures.
