Arts and crafts of old Japan
A short survey of Japanese painting, lacquer, metalwork, ceramics and print design written by Stewart Dick and published in Edinburgh and London by T. N. Foulis in 1906 for British collectors and art students. The forty plates are halftone reproductions of hanging scrolls and screen paintings: robed figures on rocks above breaking waves, a hermit riding a shaggy beast, a bird diving past a pine branch, with wide empty grounds, brushed contours and grey wash useful for texture overlays and asymmetric layouts.
