BSTJ 1: 1. July 1922: Philadelphia-Pittsburgh Section of the New York-Chicago Cable. (Pilliod, James J.)
An engineering paper by James J. Pilliod in the first issue of the Bell System Technical Journal, July 1922, describing construction of the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh section of the New York-Chicago telephone cable for Bell System engineers. The plates are coarse-screen halftone photographs of pole lines, crossarms, insulator racks and loading-coil platforms crossing fields and wooded hills, useful for high-contrast grain, silhouetted wire geometry and blunt documentary framing.
