Heat, a mode of motion
A physics treatise on heat by John Tyndall, first delivered as Royal Institution lectures and issued in this 1905 New York edition by D. Appleton for students and general readers. The 86 wood engravings show laboratory apparatus—galvanic piles, thermopiles, mirrors, pulleys and coiled wires—drawn in fine outline with hatched shadows on plain ground, useful as isolated instrument silhouettes and diagram cutouts.
