Vision and design
Roger Fry's collected essays on art, published by Chatto & Windus in London in 1920 for readers following the formalist criticism that grew out of his Post-Impressionist exhibitions. The plates are monochrome halftone reproductions of paintings, drawings, and carvings ranging from Giotto and El Greco to Blake, African figure sculpture, and Chinese and Islamic ornament, usable as high-contrast silhouettes, drapery studies, and dense crosshatched line drawing.
