The Decorator's assistant
A weekly trade paper issued in London by W. Gibbs in 1847 for house painters, gilders, grainers and decorators, mixing practical instruction with ornament design. The wood-engraved cuts are small and diagrammatic: Gothic tracery set out with lettered construction circles and centre lines, acanthus scroll bosses shaded in close hatching, and moulding profiles built from parallel rules, useful as geometric layout templates and engraved shading patterns.
