Elements of chart making
A 1916 U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey technical manual, issued by the Government Printing Office under Ernest Lester Jones, explaining to surveyors and draftsmen how nautical charts are made. Halftone field photographs show wire-drag sweeps, tripod shore signals and sounding parties against flat sea horizons, alongside line-drawn projection diagrams, harbor outlines with named islands, and specimen chart lettering useful for coastal map graphics and survey-instrument silhouettes.
