The encyclopaedia of sport
A multi-volume British sporting reference edited by the Earl of Suffolk and Berkshire, Hedley Peek and F. G. Aflalo, published in London by Lawrence and Bullen in 1897 for gentleman sportsmen, breeders and clubmen. Halftone photographs and line plates show conformation studies of horses and gundogs in profile, archers and cricketers in field dress, and open turf backgrounds with distant pavilions, useful for animal silhouettes, period sporting costume and grainy grey-toned backdrops.
