Godey's lady's book
Godey's Lady's Book was a monthly magazine issued by Louis A. Godey in Philadelphia for middle-class American women, mixing fiction, verse, and dress instruction; the 1840 volume carries hundreds of small wood engravings printed alongside the text. The cuts show skirts, caps, sleeves, and bodices drawn as flat garment shapes with ruching, piping, and braid, plus repeating scalloped lace edgings usable as borders, spot ornaments, or period costume reference.
