History of ancient, early Christian, and mediaeval painting
A survey history of ancient, early Christian and medieval painting by the German art historians Alfred Woltmann and Karl Woermann, issued in English by Dodd, Mead in New York in 1906 for students and general readers. The 133 plates are wood-engraved line copies of manuscript illuminations, mosaics and wall paintings: enthroned and haloed figures, mandorlas, arcaded frames, banded Latin inscriptions and foliate corner ornament, usable as clean outline source material for borders, monograms and figure motifs.
