Latent heat of fusion of ice
A 1914 technical paper on the latent heat of fusion of ice, issued by the National Bureau of Standards in Washington for physicists and laboratory workers. The plates are coarse-screen halftone photographs of icebergs at sea, printed in warm grey-black: white masses isolated against streaked skies and dark choppy water, with a distant steamer for scale, useful as high-contrast silhouettes, grainy tonal backgrounds, or horizon compositions.
