Mental development and manual training combined, taking up the one stitch dropped in sewing by drills to sound-singing
A sewing-instruction manual by Mary Elizabeth Dunham, published in Philadelphia by the Columbia Book Co. in 1899, written for teachers running school sewing drills set to sung counting. The line drawings show plain undergarments, drawstring drawers and skirts, yokes and gathered waistbands, plus hands demonstrating stitches, all in thin outline with dashed seam lines and hatched folds.
