Fra Giovanni Giocondo's 1511 Venice edition of Vitruvius's De architectura, printed by Giovanni Tacuino, the first illustrated version of the Roman treatise, made for Renaissance architects and humanist readers. Woodcuts are plain outline diagrams keyed with italic letters: column bases in profile, circles inscribed in squares, pavement and plan grids, Ionic volutes, and hoisting machinery, all usable as spare geometric line art.
