Studio international
An illustrated art periodical begun in London in 1893 and issued for artists, designers and collectors of fine and applied art, mixing plates of contemporary painting and printmaking with articles on decoration and ornament. The plates here are soft-toned halftone reproductions of paintings, etchings and drawings: crowded theatre boxes, figure groups seated on grass, and a wooded hillside path built almost entirely from dark massed foliage, useful for hazy tonal backgrounds, dense black tree silhouettes and loose crowd-scene compositions.
