The young astronomer; or, The facts developed by modern astronomy, collected for the use of schools and the general reader

Abbott, John S. C. (John Stevens Cabot), 1805-1877 · 1847 · New York, J.C. Riker [etc.] · 23 pictures

A popular astronomy primer written by the American clergyman and historian John S. C. Abbott, published in New York in 1847 for schoolroom use and lay readers. Wood engravings mix stippled black night skies holding nebulae, comets and star fields with plain line diagrams of orbits, eclipses and the earth's seasons, offering dense dotted textures, white star bursts and clean labelled circle-and-ellipse geometry.
