La navigation aérienne : l'aviation et la direction des aérostats dans les temps anciens et modernes
Gaston Tissandier's 1886 history of aerial navigation, published in Paris by Hachette, surveying flying machines and steerable balloons from antiquity through the author's own electric airship experiments for a general French readership. The wood-engraved plates show dirigibles, fish-shaped balloons, propellers, fan-shaped rudders and open-frame gondolas drawn in fine line with dense net rigging and hatched shading, giving designers ready silhouettes, cordage textures and mechanical diagrams.
