Astronomy in a nutshell, the chief facts and principles explained in popular language for the general reader and for schools
A popular astronomy primer by Garrett P. Serviss, published by G.P. Putnam's Sons in New York and London in 1912 for general readers and school use. The plates are halftone reproductions of observatory photographs — spiral nebulae, globular clusters, dark lanes in the Milky Way, and the filaments of the Veil Nebula — dense fields of white specks on black, often set in heavy black borders that can be lifted whole as texture, ground, or star-field stock.
