The story of art throughout the ages; an illustrated record

Reinach, Salomon, 1858-1932, Simmonds, Florence · 1904 · New York, C. Scribner's Sons · 499 pictures

A one-volume survey of world art history by the French archaeologist Salomon Reinach, translated by Florence Simmonds and issued by Scribner's in New York in 1904 for students and general readers. The 499 plates are small, coarse-screened halftones of paintings, frescoes, sculpture and buildings, printed so dark that figures collapse into silhouette against blown-out grounds, useful for high-contrast masks, ghosted textures and heavy black frames.
