Essays in the study of Sienese painting
Bernard Berenson's 1918 art-historical essays on Sienese painters, issued in New York by Frederic Fairchild Sherman for collectors, connoisseurs and museum readers. Sixty-six halftone plates reproduce gold-ground panels, gabled altarpieces, triptychs and predella strips in soft grey tones, offering pointed arch and cusped frame outlines, haloed saints, enthroned Madonnas and narrow narrative registers usable as silhouettes and border motifs.
