Godey's lady's book
Godey's Lady's Book was a monthly magazine for American women published by Louis A. Godey in Philadelphia, its 1840 volumes mixing fiction, poetry, and departments on dress and needlework. The plates here are small wood engravings of garment pieces and handwork: bodices laid flat with lacing eyelets and plaid-bound edges, a gathered beaded apron, a numbered yoke figure, and running embroidery borders of flowering sprigs and looped ribbon, usable as pattern diagrams, ornament strips, and hatched line texture.
