International studio
An illustrated art monthly, the New York edition of London's The Studio, issued from 1897 for artists, collectors and decorators reporting on painting, printmaking and the applied arts. The plates are halftone reproductions of contemporary paintings and drawings \u2014 seated figures in dark cloaks, country houses across water, cattle under heavy trees, hill towns under broad skies \u2014 printed in soft grey tones useful as ready-made atmospheric backgrounds and tonal studies.
