International studio
The International Studio was the New York edition of the London art magazine The Studio, begun in 1897 and issued monthly to artists, designers, craft workers and collectors reporting on painting, printmaking, interiors and applied ornament. Its plates are halftone reproductions of contemporary paintings, drawings and design work — tonal landscapes, sunlit courtyards, decorative stage-curtain and border schemes — useful for soft grey washes, atmospheric skies and turn-of-the-century ornamental framing.
