A trade periodical issued from 1867 by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, reporting boiler explosions and inspection findings to engineers, plant owners and insurance men. Coarse-screen halftones show burst boiler shells, torn plate and ruptured seams, collapsed mill interiors with shafting and belting, and machine parts laid out in yards — useful as grainy grey industrial texture, wreckage silhouettes and diagrammatic views of riveted metal.
