Military sketching and map reading for non-commissioned officers
A 1915 instructional manual by Loren C. Grieves, published in Washington by the United States Infantry Association to teach enlisted soldiers topographic sketching and map reading. The plates are line-drawn field sketches and diagrams: contour hills with hachured marsh and orchard symbols, profile sections for spacing contours, resection triangles and magnetic north arrows, all useful as hand-drawn cartographic marks and scale bars.
