The monuments of Christian Rome from Constantine to the renaissance
An archaeological survey of early Christian and medieval Roman churches, mosaics and monuments, written by Princeton archaeologist Arthur L. Frothingham and published by Macmillan in New York in 1908 for students and travelling readers. The 150 halftone plates and line cuts show apse and triumphal-arch mosaics, marble inlay and cosmatesque panel work, column capitals, basilica interiors and plans, useful for geometric border patterns, robed standing figures and dense dark tonal fields.
