A household advice and interior-decoration manual by Almon C. Varney, published in Detroit by J. C. Chilton & Co. in 1884 for middle-class American homemakers and house-builders. Wood engravings show gabled cottages and villas set in trees, floor plans, furniture, and small decorative cuts of leaves and sprays, with one plate printed in red ink for use as spot ornament and architectural reference.
