Photographs and letters : some Gordon-Vantine barns and what their owners think of them.
A 1918 trade catalogue issued by the Gordon-Van Tine Company of Davenport, Iowa, pairing customer photographs with testimonial letters to sell precut barn kits to American farmers. The plates are halftone photographs of gambrel- and gothic-roofed barns standing in open farmyards, with ventilator cupolas, hayhood tracks, X-braced doors and long runs of small windows, useful for rural silhouettes, vernacular building details and grainy early-century photographic texture.
