Caras y caretas

1898 · Buenos Aires : [s.n.] · 2,557 pictures

Caras y Caretas was a weekly illustrated magazine of humour, politics and society news published in Buenos Aires from 1898 for a broad urban readership. The plates run to coarse-screen halftone photographs of banquet tables, massed formal groups, stage tableaux and street events, plus caricature line work, giving designers heavy dot texture, dark tonal blocks and ready-made crowd silhouettes.
