Design of elevated steel tanks
A 1911 University of Illinois engineering thesis by Merle Jay Trees on the structural design of elevated steel water tanks, submitted for an academic degree and reproduced from the author's handwritten manuscript. The plates are hand-drawn pen-and-pencil diagrams on toned paper: tank elevations with numbered hoop courses, cross-braced tower legs, hemispherical bottoms, force and moment arrows, dimension lines with stress figures, and lettered "Fig." captions — useful for engineering-drawing texture, arrow and dimension notation, and lattice geometry.
