The draughts-player's guide and companion : a guide to the student, and a companion for the advanced player
Frank Dunne's 1890 draughts manual, published by the author in Warrington, sets out openings and endgame problems for beginners and experienced players alike. The 73 plates are all board diagrams: eight-by-eight grids with hatched squares and small cylindrical men drawn in relief, some crowned as kings, yielding ready-made grid patterns, hatch textures and repeatable counter motifs.
