The Locomotive
A periodical issued from 1867 by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, reporting boiler explosions and inspection findings to engineers, plant owners and policyholders. Coarse-screen halftones show ruptured shells, riveted seams, pipework and engine rooms buried in splintered timber, giving designers heavy dark-grey plates, industrial textures and wreckage silhouettes.
