Miscellaneous scientific papers:
A posthumous collection of William John Macquorn Rankine's papers on thermodynamics, heat engines, and marine engineering, edited by William J. Millar with a memoir by Peter Guthrie Tait and issued by C. Griffin in London in 1881 for engineers and physicists. The plates are engraved line diagrams: bare X and Y axes with families of falling curves, dropped ordinates, and points lettered in capitals and italic minuscules, useful as ready-made graph skeletons, axis conventions, and letter-labelled curve sets.
